HEART has been awarded a $25,000 disaster relief grant from the California Community Foundation (CCF) to provide emergency support and recovery services for residents impacted by the recent warehouse fire in Boyle Heights.
The funding will support immediate and short-term stabilization services for low-income households affected by the disaster, with a focus on preventing displacement and helping families maintain safe, stable housing.
Through this grant, HEART will provide assistance including:
Emergency food distribution and grocery support
Medical assistance and referrals
Temporary shelter and housing stabilization
Mental health support and community referrals
Emergency financial assistance
Pet retention support, including pet food and emergency supplies
Case management and resource navigation
"Disasters often create cascading crises for families already facing economic hardship," said Diana Cruz, Executive Director of HEART. "This funding allows us to respond quickly to urgent needs while helping residents maintain housing stability and avoid the difficult choice between caring for themselves and caring for their pets."
In addition to direct aid, HEART will connect impacted residents with housing advocacy resources, legal navigation support, and referrals to community partners throughout Los Angeles County.
Residents affected by the Boyle Heights warehouse fire who are seeking assistance are encouraged to contact HEART directly.
